Self-employed man arrested, fined and threatened when he was on his way to a meeting with colleagues

Juan Allarde Rodriguez was addressing the first meeting of the Cuban Rickshaw Association, a group formed to defend themselves against the high taxes and illegalities they commit against self-employed workers. At that time, he was stopped by two inspectors, the agent known as Ramoncito and two officers of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) who told him that he could not continue his journey. The citizen replied that this was his right, but he was mounted on a patrol car and transferred to the PNR in Jovellanos where he remained for more than 24 hours. In addition, the detainee was fined $1.500 Cuban pesos (€50) and threatened with imprisonment if he continued with the activity they were carrying out.
