UNPACU activist arrested and threatened to confess his alleged involvement with anti-governmental signs

In the afternoon, Maikel Navarro Suarez, an activist with the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), was arrested by the sector chief, Feyo Nicle Hernández. The reason for the arrest was the alleged participation of the activist in the creation of the sign that had been written on the wall of the water pumping booth that carries the liquid to the rural area to the Bermejal neighborhood. Once arrested, the activist was taken to the PNR unit where he was held for more than 24 hours under intense interrogation by the officer of Alfredo Oliveros, a member of the State Security Department (DSE). According to the victim, the officer wanted the activist to tell him that he and other activists were guilty of having written the sign, sent from Santiago de Cuba, where UNPACU's headquarters are located. Among the threats made by the officer were to imprison him, order to beat him, order to demolish the house he had built, order to get out of his job, open a file on him for trading in ceramics without a patent for that activity, among others.
