Human rights activist, Yoanny Beltrán Gamboa, went with three other activists on July 1st to the UNPACU headquarters in Santiago de Cuba. When leaving the bus terminal, they were intercepted by the State Security (DSE) officers. Yoanny was taken in a car to the Operations Unit, where he was held until July 4th. On this day, they informed him that he would be going to prison. Officer Kevin drove him in a patrol car, but the car was not headed in the direction of the prison, but, instead, to Baracoa Road. There, he was transferred to a different DSE car and asked if he knew "the game of the blind hen" and they blindfoleded him. They took him to a solitary house with closed windows where several DSE officers were already waiting and drinking beer. Yoanny refused to be recorded on a video informing them about the work of some opposition organizations so they blindfolded him again and grabbed him by the neck five times until he passed out. They told him they could kill him right there and throw him into a minefield near the naval base saying they were leaving the country anyways. He did not cooperate with them, so they handcuffed him and took him to Paraguay Road where they abandoned him.
