On January 14, 2022, Anairis Miranda Leiva, an activist of the Patriotic Union of Cuba, was detained by the Police and State Security for publicly demanding the release of the July 11 political prisoners. The police officers forcibly placed her in a patrol car, where she was taken to Perdernales, a penal processing facility. Detained there, she went on hunger strike, was threatened by the police and was released again on January 17, after 78 hours of detention.
