On 8 July 2018, Maritza Durruty Pileta was detained by a sector chief for expressing her negative opinion on a new project of the Constitution of the Republic, saying that some articles make the society more vulnerable and do not bring any benefit. Durruty Pileta was taken out by force from her house, causing her injury on her arms. During the detention, she was telling the officers that it was her right to express her opinion on things she disagrees with, but she was anyway taken to the police unit called Parque 24. The officer warned her that she had caused a public scandal and if she continued protesting in the same way, she would be prosecuted for public disorder. She was kept in detention for more than 24 hours and released on 10 July at 2 pm.
