Independent lawyer prevented from participating in the OAS General Assembly in Colombia

On Monday, 24 June 2019, Madelyn Rodríguez Martín was about to leave for Medellín, Colombia, in order to attend 49th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS). When she was passing through the Migration Office at the José Martí Airport, she was stopped by an officer and invited to follow him to his office. There she was informed that she would not be able to travel. The officers told her that they do not know the reason as they are just an executing body. They gave her back her passport and she left back for Pinar del Río. When she arrived, there was the State Security official Captain Otoniel already waiting for her. He asked her in an ironic way, why she undertook such a trip to Havana and he told her that she could not leave the country without even letting them know. On the top of that, she was threatened that her activism would have negative consequences for her.
