Alejandro Enrique Sánchez Saldívar, an independent member of the trade union, was prevented from traveling to Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday 7 June at 10 pm. Sánchez Saldívar had been invited for an anual meeting of the International Labor Organization (OIT). The immigration officer at the José Martí International Airport in Havana informed him that "he was banned from leaving the country".
