On 19 November 2019, when an imprisonment of the leader of the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), José Daniel García Ferrer, was made public, a house of Niober García Fournier, a human rights defender and independent journalist from Guantánamo, started to be under full surveillance. The house is now surrounded by jeeps, motorcycles, patrol cars, officials from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), sometimes wearing civil clothes, and policemen. The intention is to prevent the activist from leaving his house and from organizing an event which would show solidarity with the imprisoned leader.
