Peaceful opponent from Baracoa detained traveling to Guantanamo



In the morning of August 18 Arinoel Matos Navarro who resides north of the island in the municipality of Baracoa was arbitrarily detained. Matos 46 years old and an active member of the pro-democracy youth movement was arrested along with another activist at the checkpoint in the province located about ten km from the city. They were forced to get off the vehicle in which they traveled and then were led by Jefferson to the detention center operations. They were subjected to several interrogations and threats from the Cuban State Security for their civic activism for human rights. Arinoel Matos Navarro and other were after 48 hours conducted in a small bus of (PNR) to Baracoa police station, where they were released without charges against them.
