A human rights advocate is detained and threatened for expressing herself on social media.

On January 31, 2020, Nancy Alfaya Hernández, a human rights activist, was arrested outside her home by Major Alejandro and was taken to the Zanja y Dragones police unit in the capital. After a few hours, she was taken to an office before Major Alejandro from the State Security, an official from the Ministry of Communications and a policeman who typed the entire conversation. Major Alejandro confiscated her mobile phone and imposed a fine of 3,000 CUP (€ 120) "for spreading publications on social networks not in line with the principles of the revolution, which damage the morale and image of its rulers" and they also imposed a second fine of 100 CUP (4 €) for violating the "security device." After the official left, they brought in a Lieutenant of the National Revolutionary Police who threatened to charge her with the crime of "pre-criminal social dangerousness" for which she could serve up to four years in prison for it. On February 7, Nancy was summoned to the office of the Sector Chief of the National Revolutionary Police in Old Havana where Major Alejandro and another police officer informed her that for allegedly having social and moral misconduct in her neighborhood, for not working and meeting with antisocial and counterrevolutionary elements, she would be under a process of "Control for Persons of Police Interest" for nine months; therefore, she had to sign every month at the office of the Chief of Sector of the Old Havana police.
