Activist arrested and threatened for demonstrating against tourism and the government



Around 10 am agents of the Department of State Security (DSE) and the political police arrested Esber Rafael Ramiréz Argota, delegate of the Independent and Democratic Cuba (CID) party in Antilla. Uniformed officers of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), carried out an operation in the activist's home and detained him for 2 hours. During the detention, the activist was threatened and coerced for having promoted in Antilla, together with other opponents and members of the CID, the campaign to stop the entry of tourists to Cuba "Life for money-NOT". The activists collected signatures to prevent the government from allowing tourists to enter the country and hold the Cuban State responsible for the situation of shortage that prevails on the island. The activist was threatened by Major Henry Borredo Peña. The PNR officer, Yoel Árias Planell, demanded that he sign a letter of warning for propaganda activities. When he refused to sign, Major Henry confirmed that he would not stop until he was taken to court and sanctioned for trampling on government functions.
