Bartolo Cantillo Romero was detained by State Security (DSE) officials known as Víctor Víctor and Luis Ángel along with two more policemen in the Los Maceos and 3 Sur Streets in Guantánamo. The detention took place when Bartolo was on his way to the José Martí Park in order to participate in a protest event against a murder of a young Afro-Cuban Hansen Ernesto Hernández who had been subjected to police violence and killed. Bartolo was then taken to the police unit in the municipality of El Salvador. There, a DSE official known as Leonis told him to quit his political activism and to stop organizing meetings at home otherwise he would be prosecuted. The official also said that if he did so and he left the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), they could help him. And if he left the country along with his family, they would cover all the expenses which Bartolo refused. He was released at about 6 am on the next day.
