Activist detained and threatened after attempting to file letter of complaint about violations against UNPACU leader



On September 23, Adrian Quesada, a human rights activist with the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), was detained along with other activists outside the provincial prosecutor's office. The activists intended to deliver a letter of complaint about the rights violations being committed against José Daniel Ferrer, leader of UNPACU, to the provincial prosecutor's office. Mr. Quesada was taken to the second police station and held for 10 hours in the station's theater. State security officers, known as Mario and Kevin, threatened him that he would soon be imprisoned for cause for attack. After receiving several threats, he was released at 5:00 pm.
