Georvis Chibas Castillo was on his way to Santigo de Cuba to participate in Mass conducted to demand the release of political prisoners and the end of political repression against Cubans. At 5:40 am, when the bus he was travelling by was passing through a checkpoint, he was detained by police and State Security officials without having submitted any legal documents. He was handcuffed and driven to the police station in Caimanera. During the detention, he was threatened with imprisonment by Major Cantillo, State Security Chief in Caimanera.
