Activist detained, assaulted, and threatened with been disappeared



The activist of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) Yuniesqui Romero Romero was detained when he was distributing printed matter on Calixto Garcia Street together with another activist. The activists were detained by National Revolutionary Police (PNR) agents among whom were captain and sector chief Gianny Clape Rodriguez and first lieutenant Anael Hernandez. After being detained, the activist was taken to the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) unit where he was then placed in a dungeon of the mentioned unit. After more than 24 hours of detention, he was taken out to be interrogated by Lieutenant Colonel Lesnier Leiva for more than 2 hours. This officer threatened the political opponent with the removal of his wife from her workplace if he continued to engage in subversive activities in the streets, and with being beaten by members of the rapid response brigades if he continued to create disturbances and disrupt public order. The activist was released not without first being officially charged with public disorder and enemy propaganda. The captain and head of the opposition group Alfredo Oliveros told the activist just before his release that he would be careful because he would disappear him and his family.
