Demis participated in the July 11, 2021 protest along with a crowd from the Placeteño municipality. The group demanded freedom, economic progress and other needs. On July 18, he was arrested and taken to the municipal police station, then to the Bivouac in Caibarien and finally to prison. His mother's house, where he has a candy factory, was also registered by the police.
