On Wednesday, 26 September 2019, independent lawyer Madelyn Rodríguez Martín went to the José Martí International Airport and was about to catch her flight heading to Jamaica. There she was supposed to attend a capacity building training. When she checked in and got the boarding pass, she was heading towards migration officers. As soon as she approached them, the officer on duty called his superior and they invited Madelyn to their office at the airport. There they informed her that she was banned from leaving the country and that's why she could not travel. The officer made a gesture explaining that they had really nothing to do with that regulation and they were just following the orders given in this case by the Cuban State Security.
