On 2 January 2021, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), Eliover Navarro García, was arbitrary detained by an official from the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), Lieutenant Feyo Nicle Hernández, and by two more members of the special forces. The detention took place in the Central Park in Baracoa. Then, Eliover Navarro was driven to the PNR station where he was kept for more than 24 hours under heavy interrogation conducted by Major Alfredo Oliveros, the chief of the confrontation unit. The reason for the detention was his alleged involvement in aggression in the prison in Baracoa. Eliover Navarro was released after having spent 72 hours detained in bad conditions and having received threats with prosecution for an alleged crime of disrespect to the authority.
