UNPACU activist's sentence aggravated after summary trial

The activist of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) Misael Espinoza was six days away from completing a 10-month sentence of correctional work without internment that had been imposed on him for non-payment of fines, when he was officially summoned to the Municipal Court. On the day of the summons, the Execution Judge, influenced by officials of the Department of State Security (DSE), proceeded to revoke his sentence, condemning him in a summary trial to another 8 months of imprisonment with internment, counted from the date of his next entry into the "El Chungo" prison camp, where he was held for four months. The activist was transferred from that camp to the maximum security Provincial Prison as a result of a telephone call he made to denounce the irregularities and violations being committed in that prison. In the prison he was not allowed to exercise his right to make phone calls for several months and family visits were limited to two of his children as the only visitors.
