"On April 24, 2021, at 2:00 in the afternoon, activist Leonel Pérez Columbie was violently arrested by Alfredo Oliverso, a member of the National Security, Feyo Nicle Hernández and Hanael Hernández, both officers of the National Revolutionary Police. What motivated the arrest were the expressions made by the activist, in public, against the current regime in his country. Mr. Leonel publicly said phrases such as ""down with Díaz-Canel"", ""down with communism"", ""down with the repression of the regime against the Cuban people"". During the time he was detained, which was more than 72 hours, the National Police officers tried to induce the activist to retract, in front of a crowd, the acts he had committed and to declare that he had been paid to carry out such action. In addition, the officers wanted Mr. Leonel to blame the UNPACU coordinator, José Daniel Ferrer García, for influencing the commission of the action. Upon his release, he was fined 2000 CUP for the crime of disturbing the public order.
