Eldris Pozo is a human rights activist of the "Alianza Democrática Oriental" who has been persecuted on several occasions by the regime. On March 16, 2021, a bailiff from the Municipal Court went to his home and handed him a prosecutor's petition stating that he allegedly had pushed a female inspector named Kenia, disrespect towards two chiefs in the area and made counter-revolutionary comments. At that time he was handed a fiscal petition where he was fined 1000CUP without having been previously notified that there was a criminal process against him. On April 12, 2021, the oral hearing of the criminal process was held in the Fourth Chamber of the Municipal Court of Santiago, in said hearing it was requested that he be sentenced to 3 years in prison for the crimes of attempt, contempt and disobedience. Pozos indicates that the criminal process was not impartial and that his right of defense was violated because he was only allowed to present 3 of the 7 witnesses he had in his favor, he is still waiting for the sentence to become final.
