Yoel Acosta Games, a human rights activist and independent journalist, was summoned on October 14 by the sector chief, Captain Alexander Coa, to be interviewed by the DSE officer known as Moreira. Yoel went with several family members to the scene, Officer Moreira told him that he had been summoned for inciting hatred of the people against the government in Baracoa, encouraging them to demonstrate in the streets and that this constituted a crime. He gave him a letter of warning for incitement to commit a crime, which Yoel did not sign. Moreira began to offend him and hit him several times, hitting him on the head, back and chest and threatening to take him to prison. His family, upon hearing the noise, entered the office and upon seeing what was happening, the sister threw herself against the officer to prevent him from continuing with the blows. The sister got into a fierce argument with the DSE officer and ended up being fined 30 CUP (1€), alleging that she broke into a police establishment without permission. Yoel was taken to a jail where he was charged with the crime of disobedience. He was released the next day with a fine of 4,000 pesos (153 €), under Decree 8-3, a procedure used to avoid presenting the accused in court for the alleged crime of disobedience. He was also threatened with imprisonment for incitement if he continued to ask people to protest. The officer concluded by telling him that the best thing he could do was to leave the country and that they could help him with that.
