On 1 November 2017 at 9 am, a house of human rights defender Antonio Jesús Rodríguez Page was searched and after that he was detained. On that day, Major Machín from the Technical Investigative Department and five policemen with a search warrant appeared in front of Antonio's house. In the presence of his father and wife, the house was searched and Antonio was accused of illegal economic activity. This served as an excuse for police to put Antonio in a prison. The activist was kept in the prison cell at the police station in Pinar del Río until 6 November 2017. During this period, he was mistreated by the police, especially when he needed a medical assistance due to acute cellulitis in his stomach. He was not taken to the hospital which caused him serious infection and very long subsequent recovery. Based on the decision of the municipal prosecutor's office, Antonio was given back some of the confiscated items. However, his rights are still limited as he received an official warning saying that he would be put in jail again if he continued with his couterrevolutionary activities at home.
