On 15 June, 2021, in the afternoon hours, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU) Fidel Manuel Batista Leivas was a victim of repudiation act carried out by the State Security, secret police and Rapid Response Unit. The officials came equipped with cold weapons and threatened him with death. The activist had to leave the Gibara Municipality and walk 15 kilometers until he found a transportation. When he arrived at the checkpoint Aguas Claras in the municipality of Holguín, an official known as Yusnel tried to send him back to Gibara. Eventually, Batista Leivas was allowed to enter the Holguín Province, however, he became a victim of another police operation. He was violently detained and taken to the police unit called Pedernal. There he decided to go on a hunger strike. He was released 72 hours later.
