When Emilio Almaguer de la Cruz's was travelling back from Trinidad and Tobago, he was travelling in his vehicle and was stopped at the Guantanamo checkpoint by police officers. He was taken out of the car immediately and brought to the police station known as "Operations" to be questioned about what he was bringing to Cuba and about the reasons for the trip. A few hours later, he was told that he was going to the prison and he was taken to the Salvador Police Station, where he remained until the next day.
