On February 19, 2014, Yery Cúrvelo Aguilera, an activist from the Eastern Democratic Alliance (ADO), was arbitrarily detained at his home in the Caimanera municipality and transferred to the police unit, Parque 24, where he was detained until the 25th of the same month pending the resolution of the provincial court of Guantánamo. However, the authorities proposed a change in the precautionary measure, which means the revocation of his home confinement so that he would be admitted to the Guantánamo provincial prison known as El Combinado. In 2014, Cúrvelo Aguilera was tried to 3 years of deprivation of liberty on the alleged charges of contempt and damages for publicly demonstrating against the Castro regime on a street in La Havana. According to his wife, Odalis Legra Castellanos, Yery Cúrvelo Aguilera went on a hunger strike for denying him medical assistance with two years remaining in prison.
