On the 12th of March 2017, a group of people attempted to physically harass the Patrotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) activist Roberto Quiñones Guzmán. He was explaining to a group of foreigners that he belonged to the UNPACU and the purpose of its activities. Suddenly, a group of people started shouting and threatening him to beat him if he was going to continue to speak badly of the revolution. The activist escaped and the group of people started to yell and insult him, while throwing sharp objects with the intention of seriously injure him. The repressive action was organized and directed by the former State Security officer of the state, Maikel Rivero.
