The representative of Ladies in White Rosa Escalona Gomez, together with other human rights activists, was arrested so that she would not attend Sunday Mass at the Church Cristo Redentor de los Hombres in Holguín held by the Ladies in White and the UNPACU. From the early morning hours, the political police placed patrol cars, motorcycles and uniformed and plainclothes officers in front of her house. They detained the representative and her son Yunior Alberto Freyre Escalona in their house. Rosa was taken to the unit of criminal investigation, where she remained in a hot and pestilential cell. They threatened her with death if she continued with her activism. Yunior was taken to the Technical Investigation Department known as El Anillo. The two were beaten during their detention. They were allowed to leave approximately 27 hours after being detained.
