Authorities rules out investigation on police violence

The Military Prosecutor's Office of Guantánamo ruled out the possibility of prosecuting the police officers who assaulted the lawyer and independent journalist Roberto Jesús Quiñones Haces. Although initially the police decided to investigate ex officio the uniformed officers who stopped with violence and beat the victim, they now ruled out taking any more specific action with the aggressors. In fact, the Provincial Prosecutor's Office decided to charge him of two new crimes: resistance and disobedience. The victim was arrested and beaten by police officers on April 22 while trying to cover a trial.
