Young man from Guantánamo detained and fined for carrying with him some coffee

In the afternoon, 20 September, Yanier Nico Mafu was walking down the Paseo Street when he was detained by patrols going around. He was taken to the police unit where he was kept in detention for about 3 hours. The official on duty confiscated him a can with feed corn and four pounds of coffee which he got from his relatives living in the countryside. The official told him that this is illegal and he is a criminal because he is selling the goods. "It is forbidden to transport the coffee and you can be put in jail", said the official. Yanier was fined 60 pesos and the official told him not to meet him again otherwise he would end up in prison.
