About 6 o'clock in the morning, Bartolo Cantillo Romero intended to go to the church of Santa Catalina de Ricci in order to participate in the Sunday Mass organized by the Ladies in White. As he was passing through Los Maceos Street and Camilo Cienfuegos Avenue, the State Security officer known as Kevin or Jeferson intersected him. The officer prevented him from continuing on his way so Bartolo protested and was detained. They took him to the police center called Operaciones where they told him they would not let him go to church anymore. He was released around 1 pm the same day.
