On 21 April 2018, at about 3 pm, an activist from the Cuban Reflection Movement (MCR), Lázaro Gervasio Fernández Juanes, was arrested in his house located in the Reparto Reina District in Cienfuegos. Then he was driven to the police unit in the Reparto Pueblo Grifo in the same municipality. He was accused of human trafficking and illegal departure from the country. After that, he was transported to the Provincial Unit for Criminal Investigations and Operations (UPICO) in Santa Clara, where he was kept in detention.
