On January 20th, 2017, Héctor López Pérez, an activist from the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), was arrested at his home located in the city of Guantánamo before uniformed police officers and government agents conducted a home search. Family members present reported that they showed up at his house without a search warrant and without a canine technique. His wife and two of his brothers witnessed how the State Security officer known as Alien placed a marijuana cigarette on a table in the house. Similarly, witnesses from the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) argue that they had not seen the cigarette previously and that they only saw it in the officer's hands.
