Activist Roberto Quiñones Guzmán arrested under false charges

On 30th November, Roberto Quiñones Guzmán, an activist from the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), was arrested by agents Alfredo Oliveros and Antonio Rodríguez of the Department of State Security (DSE) and by officers Fello Nicle Hernández and Cornelio Azahares of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) as he was walking down Martí Street. The reason for the arrest was the alleged intellectual authorship by the activist of a series of anti-government signs that had been appearing on the walls of several places in the city of Baracoa. At the time of his arrest, the activist shouted anti-government slogans, which caused a crowd of people to gather at the scene. According to the victim, he had been wanted by PNR officials for several days, and even the sector chief of the area where he lives went to look for him at his home on several occasions. However, the activist always told him that if it was not with an official summons he was not going anywhere, least of all with people like them.
