Cuban Republican Party (PCR) activist Elduvin Corrales Boza showed up at the Police Unit to find out about the status and reasons for the arrest of three of his relatives that had occurred violently two hours earlier. When investigating, one of the officers involved in the arrest falsely claimed that the victim had also been present during the arrest and that he had not been apprehended, so another of the police officers present arrested him without even hearing Elduvin's explanation of the facts. The activist was detained for 52 hours. During his arrest he was threatened by the State Security Department (DSE) agent known as Leandro and then by the two instructors identified as Inés and Alexander. Upon learning that his wife (one of the detainees) had not been taken to hospital for treatment and to obtain a medical certificate for the injuries she had received, the activist threatened to go on a hunger strike, undress, cover himself with excrement and throw it through the bars. With these threats, he managed to get his wife treated a few minutes before being released on a weekly signing moral bond at the unit. The activist was subsequently sentenced to six months' imprisonment without internment, under a regime of compulsory correctional labour.
