Julio Cesar Salazar Salinas is a human rights activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU). On 10 January 2016, he was travelling by microbus to Santiago de Cuba in order to attend a march organized by UNPACU - Todos Marchamos. When the bus was arriving in the municipality of Santa María, Julio was taken out from the vehicle by force and detained by political police officers known as Pagan, Girón and Ferro, accompanied by members of the national police. Then he was left on the road together with other UNPACU activists. Several hours later, he was put in a car and driven to the National Revolutionary Police in Mella. There he was threatened with death if he continued with his activism within UNPACU.
