On July 7, 2014, André Gainsa Cañizares, a 30 years old man, was arrested at his home located in the province and municipality of Guantánamo for the alleged crime of theft and slaughter of large livestock, a crime that in Cuba is condemned with many years in jail. Two uniformed men arrived at the house of Cañizares with a search warrant, since, according to them, they claimed to have information that he was storing cattle meat in his house. After carrying out the police search without any success, they proceeded to arrest him and transfer him to the detention center known as Operaciones, where he remained under intense interrogation led by captain Ulises of the Technical Investigations Department (DTI). Captain Ulises of the DTI, kept André Gainsa Cañizares in a cell for 7 days without the right to be visited by his relatives. Then, he was released on the morning of July 17 of the same year without charges against him but with several threats made by captain Ulises.
