A case of a couple being beated, arrested and fined for defending counterrevolutionary activists



On November 22 at 11:00 am the patrol 208 of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) arrived at the residence of journalist Jorge Dominguez Ibaergoyen and ordered Jorge to accompany them to the police unit. As they did not bring any court order, Jorge and his wife refused to be transferred to Colon. After 20 minutes the State Security official Miguel Garcías Díaz accompanied by two female officers arrived and physically harrassed Jorge and his wife. The couple continued to demand for the court order but officer Miguel officer said that they didn't need permission because they were the bosses in the country. At 2.00 pm they were taken to the unit in Colon where Jorge was interrogated by the head of the unit 004 Colonel Carlos Manuel because his wife was a member of Ladies in White and the representative of the provincial headquarters of UNPACU in the province of Matanzas. The couple also have a picture of their convicted daughter on their front door in order to demand her release. They have also written slogans against the regime and slogans defending human rights. Jorge and his wife were fined $ 30.00 cup along with being subjected to police violations of legal procedures. The police had the banners removed and the slogans were painted on. Jorge was released the same day at 6.00 pm.
