Alexander Díaz Rodríguez, punished for demonstrating on July 11 in the Artemisan municipality of San Antonio de los Baños last year, was suspended from his regular family visit for the month of August. Moraima Batista Rodriguez, his aunt, went to the prison to visit him, but the prison authorities told her that they would not give him the visit and Alexander knew why. The activist claimed that because of his illness, he needed toiletries and food sent from home. In March 2021 he was diagnosed with throat cancer after leaving a hunger strike in Guanajay prison, where he demanded medical assistance and better living conditions for the inmates.
