On 11 July, 2021, Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina, a human rights defender and a member of the Eastern Democratic Alliance, was detained by a Major and several agents from the State Security (DSE), all of them unknown. This happened during protests taking place in the Guantánamo Province as a part of the wave of national protests in the whole country. The activist was first taken to the police station Parque 24 and later to the DSE detention center known as Operations. There he was interrogated by a DSE Lieutenant Colonel who did not introduce himself and who threatened with imprisonment for an alleged crime of disruption of order and spreading epidemics. He was released on 14 of July at about 5 pm. Before his release he was fined 3000 pesos and received an official warning saying that he cannot attend any other protest and insult the president Díaz-Canel. Rodríguez Lobaina did not accept neither signed the document.
