On 18 March 2021, Edgar Menas Cardozas was visited at home by police along with a house inspector and the chief of the local Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR). The intention was to prevent Menas Cardozas from providing testimony and expressing criticism to independent journalists about his critical living conditions and a related state inaction. During the visit, Menas Cardozas was mistreated and threatened by sector police chief known as Clape. The official threatened him with suspension of the loan he took for restoration of his property if he kept talking to journalists.
