Angel Frometa Lovaina, an activist with the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), was stopped at the checkpoint known as a traffic circle. The activist was on his way to the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) when he was arrested, and taken to the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) unit in San Antonio del Sur where he was released after being threatened by the State Security Department (DSE) officer Captain Yudelquis Abad to prevent him from going to Santiago de Cuba. The activist, after being released, went to his house where several members of the Rapid Response Brigades were waiting for him, one of them named Antonio Matos, who was previously an informant, approached him and told him not to try to leave his house because they would be watching him in case he tried to leave from the other side.
