An activist from ADO threatened by State Security with 30-year sentence in prison



Fernando Ginarte is a human rights activist from the municipality of Contramaestre in the Santiago de Cuba Province and a member of the Eastern Democratic Alliance (ADO). On that day, he was detained at home at about 12 pm. Two policemen came for him and took him to the police station in his village. There, the State Security (DSE) official known as Adolfo told him, that he got an information that he was creating terroristic groups and for that reason, he would be imprisoned for 30 years. If he wanted to avoid it, he would have to leave the country. The official also added that he had 30 days to think it over. Meanwhile Ginarte was detained, DSE agents visited his mother, wife and mother-in-law. They were told that Ginarte would be put in prison for a long period of time and they should convince him to leave the country. Those agents also told his wife to give them Ginarte's phone, but she said it was with him. After having received the threats, the activist was released at about 3 pm on the same day.
