Human rights activist driven out of Guantánamo and threatened

In the afternoon, 24 July, 2020, Rolando Mesa Benítez was walking down the Avenue Street in the city of Guantánamo. Suddenly, a white car stopped next to him and two State Security officials dressed in civil clothes got off the car. They put Mesa Benítez inside the car and drove him out of Guantánamo. When they stopped, one of the officials, Major Sergio, said: " Look, I do not want to see you again in the house of Bartolo Cantillo nor meeting with that riffraff. You can end up in prison and next time we see each other, it would not be just for talking." Then they searched him and confiscated him 30 pesos he was carrying. After that, Mesa Benítez was left on the Santiago de Cuba highway, six kilometres away from the city of Guantánamo.
