Independent lawyer threatened and banned from traveling to Trinidad and Tobago



On 5 December 2019, State Security official known as Otoniel appeared unexpectedly at the house of Madelyn Rodríguez. The official threatened her and banned her from traveling to the José Martí Airport on the next day. Madelyn, who is an independent lawyer and human rights defender, was supposed to travel on 8 December to Trinidad and Tobago and participate in an event discussing gender-based violance. The captain talked to her very loudly and told her that if she went to the airport, she would be refused to travel, as her status had been regulated, and disappointed.
