Human rights activist from Bayamo detained and intimidated by State Security

Based on the official summons, Juan Ariel Zaldívar Reyes had to go to the Provincial Instruction Unit of the State Security. There he was received by the First Lieutenant Miguel who was interrogating him on his activities in the opposition and his posts he was publishing on the social media. He also threatened him with applying the Decree-Law 370, which stipulates a fine up to 3000 pesos (120€) or imprisonment. One hour later, Juan Ariel left the unit. However, in the afternoon, at about 3 pm, official Miguel appeared in Juan Ariel's house, accompanied by two policemen and ordered to search his house without any search warrant or other legal document. Juan Ariel was then detained and taken to the police unit in the neighboring municipality of Jiguaní. There he was kept until the next day (11 August) when he was released at 9 am without being given any explanation. He had to return back home to Bayamo on his own.
