On the afternoon 15th September 15, 2017, the activist Leonardo Cantillo Galván was arrested by political police troops and by officers of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) for an alleged crime of damaging state property. According to the activist's mother, her son was not prosecuted for that crime but rather for his oppositional behavior against the system. Leonardo Cantillo was prosecuted and convicted in a summary trial, even though there was no evidence to link him to the act of which he was accused. State Security Department (DSE) agents remained on the trial until the activist was tried and sentenced to four years in Guantánamo’s prison.
