Ramón Olivares Abello was going to Santiago de Cuba in order to attend Mass and a protest march which were being conducted to demand the release of political prisoners and the end of repression against Cubans. At 6:50, he was detained by police and State Security and driven to the Police Department in Niceto Pérez, where he was kept for several hours without having been explained why. During his detention, he was threatened with imprisonment for his counterrevolutionary activity and later released.
