Activist detained and prevented from participating in UNPACU event



Rubén Torres Saiz, a human rights activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), was travelling by microbus to Santiago de Cuba in order to attend a march carried out by UNPACU - Todos Marchamos. When the bus was arriving in the municipality of Santa María, Rubén was taken out from the vehicle by force and detained by political police officers. Then he was left on the road along with other UNPACU activists. Several hours later, he was put in a car and driven to the National Revolutionary Police in Mella. There he was threatened with death if he continued his involvement in UNPACU.
