She was going to denounce the man who tried to rape her, but she discovered that the perpetrator had already denounced her

Lazara Yairis Garcia Cruz was going home when she met a ranger. Suddenly, the man tried to violate her in front of her two children. Mrs. Garcia Cruz tried to defend herself but he punched her with a belt, put a pistol to her head and told her that if the boys didn’t quiet down, he would kill her. The resistance of the woman was so strong that the man left running after all as he did not achieve his objective. When Mrs. Garcia Cruz went to the police to make a report, there already was a report against herself with the subject of violence against the ranger Alfonzo Rodríguez Pérez. The police put her into the prison and released her after six days. During the six days, the police was trying to cover lesions on the woman's body, which were done by the ranger. Even more, during the detention, her sons didn’t know anything about their mom. After all the suffering, thanks to many of her neighbours Mrs. Garcia Cruz was visited by a group of human rights activists from the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights on the 26th of February. Activists made statements and videos of Mrs. Garcia Cruz and her neighbours. This way the group achieved to bring the case before the court and the trial was held on the 2nd of March. During the trial, Mrs. Garcia Cruz was followed by the lawyer and activist of human rights José Ernesto Morales. Nevertheless, at the Municipal Court of Pinar del Río, Mr. Morales was taken out of the building by five officials of the State Security telling him that they would not allow his presence at the place. On contrary, the alleged victim Mr. Rodríguez Pérez was followed by various officials dressed in green. Mrs. Garcia Cruz spend the court followed just by her 6 years old daughter and other lady. The result of the court has not been presented yet.
